Ambassadors - East of England

A huge thank you to you all for a great result

Waiting for the final figures for National Training Awards entries has been a bit like the general election in that the position took a little time to clarify for a variety of reasons including certain key people being dislocated by a certain volcano!!

The outcome is that there has been an encouraging 6% rise nationally across all categories.

We have also increased entries in the East of England by 34% on last year!
This is an excellent result which could not have been achieved without your support and commitment. I know some of you now have the task on assessing and judging these entries and let's hope the gains continue and produce Regional and UK winners of real quality...a Winner of the Year would be nice too!

One outcome of this result is that UK Skills have invited me to take on the contract as Ambassador Coordinator for the region for the 2010 -11 which I have accepted. So, although it may be quiet now while the 2010 entries are being looked at I will be in contact with you again about the 2011 campaign, planning for which starts during the summer.

NTA UK Award Winner, Large Employer; Pitney Bowes Ltd
Training is Key to Increased Sales for Pitney Bowes

Implementing innovative sales training has paid dividends for franking and mailstream expert, Pitney Bowes. The Harlow based business with over 250 employees, chose to invest in training as a way to improve sales in a difficult economic climate - resulting in substantial benefits to the bottom line.

Pitney Bowes wanted to change its perception as a company that purely dealt with franking machines, to become experts in a multi-solution, mailstream world. External changes, namely the Royal Mail introduction of sized-based pricing, also meant that customers were much more demanding, expecting them to give advice on all areas of the postal service.

The company realised that the financial downturn necessitated greater focus on developing existing customer accounts and retaining business by adding additional products into their mailsteam. However, only 6% of Pitney Bowes customers had more than one piece of equipment and even fewer had more than two. The company decided it was essential to up skill the workforce to be able to cross-sell effectively and conduct high level conversations with customers about alternative solutions.
