Ambassadors - Greater London
We have now completed all the Information Sessions in London for this year. There has been an excellent turn out with most people attending saying that they will be submitting an entry. The closing date is not until 23rd April however so there is still time for you to spread the word. I now have case study booklets available containing details of a range of 2009 Winners of the Year and National Winners, including The Scout Association, which I would be happy to send to you to support prospective applicants. With your help I hope we will have a bumper year for applications this year with even more winners.
Thank you again to all of you that helped with the sessions by hosting, speaking or generally spreading the word. I would still like to hear about other networking sessions, or speaking opportunities, that you have attended, or are attending. Thanks to Cryss from London Borough of Sutton we were able to display our stand and issue leaflets at their National Conference for Local Authorities which was also attended by many top recruitment companies and training providers. We were also fortunate enough to attend the IIP London Celebration Ceremony on 30th March, for Gold, Silver and Bronze IIP Organisations and special achievement winners, thank you John, it was a fabulous event.
And last but by no means least, thank you to the London
Ambassadors that joined me at the Ambassador networking
event on 4th March. We were small in numbers but big
in commitment and enthusiasm. I have already circulated
brief notes to you all and will ensure I give you more
notice of future events.
I look forward to keeping you informed on how applications
are going as we move into the cycle of assessment and
judging.

Scout Leaders Train for the Future
Scouts in the UK can earn badges for anything from "Caving" to "Street Sports", but to become a scout leader there is one badge you must have and it's called the Wood Badge. The Scout Association (TSA) is the UK's arm of the World Scout Movement, the famous volunteer led youth movement founded by Lord Baden Powell in 1907, and the Wood Badge is a training programme undertaken by all leaders in the Movement. It is TSA's internationally recognised award to show that a leader has been trained to deliver safe, adventurous and exciting activities for young people.
The scheme has been teaching volunteers to be scout leaders since 1919, but like the scout movement itself, the adult training programme has had to move with the times. The latest incarnation of adult training, a flexible modular course designed specifically to work around the needs of volunteers, has proved a measurable success: in the last four years there has been a 50% percent increase in adults completing adult training.
