Ambassadors - North East
Well HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. Here we are in 2010! A new year and a new decade. It hardly seems like any time at all since we had a new millennium to me!
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and had time to relax and enjoy yourselves. Hopefully you are all feeling refreshed and ready for the New Year. I certainly am!
Of course we have lots of activity going on in this first quarter of the year - or last quarter as many of you will be working from a financial calendar I know. We here at UK Skills have sent out invitations to the regional information sessions to all of those customers that we have on our database. We will be collecting all the responses, but of course we would love to add to that list.

Safety First as Nissan Reaps Big Benefits
Car manufacturer Nissan has seen the number of accidents at its Sunderland plant fall by 60% in four years since its safety training programme was introduced. The Zero Injuries Programme (ZIP) has changed the mindset of the workforce and visitors, and has resulted in a major cost saving for the plant.
Steve Pallas, training manager at Nissan Manufacturing UK's Sunderland site, says: "It is not acceptable for one person to get hurt while working at the plant. Unfortunately due to the hard, fast paced nature of the job, working with heavy, potentially dangerous materials and equipment, incidents do occur. Our Zero Injuries Programme has taken us a long way towards achieving our people objectives. Since implementing this intiative, Sunderland Plant has also seen a benefit of a reduction in insurance premium costs of over £4m."
