Ambassadors - North East

Well it's been a busy month for me and the NTA gang, because we have started the Information Sessions across the country in earnest. The good news is that we have already exceeded the numbers of people reached by the team last year so hopefully the approach will bring about plenty more applications.

In the North East we have had 2 events take place; one at Business and Enterprise North East, and the other at City and Guilds. Both were successful events and discussions held with the delegates were promising with several looking to put interesting and some multiple applications forward. Another event held with Gateshead College and IIPNE has also taken place this month and over 30 delegates participated again with a number indicating positive interesting putting an application forward.

In March we have 2 events running - one at Durham University on the 4th March and the other at Northumbria University on the 12th March. These promise to have good attendance already but please continue to promote them when you are out and about as we can still fit in more.

NTA UK Award Winner, Training Provider; Northumberland Theatre Company
First Steps in Stagecraft for North East Theatre Professionals

North East actors, designers, directors and stage managers are taking their first steps onto the professional stage with the help of a theatre training ensemble based at The Playhouse in Alnwick.

In the last six years, about 40 young people from the region have spent a year learning their chosen profession with education and training provider InterACT: The Northern Region's Theatre Training Ensemble. Since 2003, between six and eight people each year have learnt their craft through this paid apprenticeship scheme for theatre professionals, which is managed and mentored by the Northumberland Theatre Company, a national touring theatre company. The aim of the year-long training scheme is to produce fully-employable theatre professionals and to encourage local talent to stay in the region. Course members, all of whom have lived or trained in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham, Cleveland, or Cumbria, are chosen through auditions, interviews and workshops. They must be aged over 18 with a degree or equivalent semi-professional theatre experience.
