Ambassadors - North East
April 23rd is almost here now and so we only have a couple more weeks in which to encourage all of our contacts to submit their NTA entries for this year. Thank you for all of your efforts so far, but can I please ask that we have one more hard push to the finish line. The entry deadline is 5pm on the 23rd April so please remind people of this. If you can offer support to anyone by being their 'critical friend' by reading their drafts I am sure they will find this enormously helpful.
I have been doing my utmost to get the word out and have met with lots of local companies this month through 3 information sessions and other networking events. We held 2 information sessions in March, one with hosts and sponsors Durham University and Event Durham, and one at Northumbria University. Both events were extremely well attended with close to 30 delegates at each. Having spoken to a number of the delegates over lunch, it seems that many of them are new to the Awards and are hoping to submit entries this year. Finally we put on one last information session last week in Middlesbrough at Teesside University where again people were keen to get their entries in before the deadline. Many thanks goes to all of the hosts at each of the events for supporting us.

Local Communities Help Improve Police
Training
A strategy of closely involving the local community in police training is helping to boost public confidence in the service and reduce levels of crime in Durham and Northumbria, says the North East Centre for Policing Skills.
The centre, which trains student police officers and community support officers for the Durham and Northumbria police services, aims to involve new recruits with a diverse range of local community members during their two years of study.
During this time they have opportunities to meet and talk to a wide range of local people, including hard-to-reach groups, with the aim of improving students' awareness of what the community needs and expects from them. Among other initiatives, the centre has developed a partnership with Better Days, a charity for severely disabled people, and is working with the Durham Primary Care Trust to make students aware of the needs of young people with communication difficulties who come into contact with the police.
