Ambassadors - Wales

Well, the UK Ceremony was a great end to the 2009 National Training Awards. The Welsh winners enjoyed the celebration of their success, and the UK Skills team then began preparations for 2010.

I hope that you have already put the Awards at the top of your New Year's Resolution list. Whether it's to host an information session, or to motivate a colleague to apply, make sure that you turn your good intentions into action. It was gratifying to hear how many of our winners owe much of their success to the Ambassador Network. Sometimes an Ambassador provided the 'push' to help fill in the entry form, or acted as a mentor to the entrant. Whatever help you can provide will be an important contribution to making NTA 2010 a real success for Wales.

Due to winning a number of major UK and international programmes in the 1990s, Newport based EADS Defence and Security Services experienced rapid growth. The company soon realised that to capitalise on its success it needed a better quality of recruit. It decided to invest in a graduate training scheme that would develop its work force, build a powerful knowledge-base and help it maintain marketplace edge and competitiveness.

EADS is a global leader in aeronautics, defence and space, employing 120,000 people worldwide. It is one of the largest employers in Wales, with its Newport site employing approximately 900 people. The company addresses some of the Government's highest priorities, including counter-terrorism, protection of the Critical National Infrastructure, high-grade cryptography and secure battle-space communications.
