Ambassadors - Yorkshire and the Humber
Our entry guidance information sessions have now finished in the region and these have proved invaluable to those fellow training professionals seeking to submit an entry to this year's Awards. We have found that offering this level of support during each campaign has been vital to creating a quality entry and therefore we plan to run these next year. If you attended one of these sessions and have any thoughts on how we can make them even better, please let us know.
A personal thank you to all those who have contributed
to supporting the sessions this year, not least to Isabelle
Greenwood for the delivery and guidance and also to our
winner speakers who provided their personal experiences
and success stories. Thanks also to those who kindly
allowed us to use their premises to run the sessions.
With just 2 weeks to go until the doors close for the
2010 submission we are looking to make a final push for
entries.
There are many reasons why potential entrants don't go on to submit an entry - here are three common ones. It may be that the motivation fades, especially under time pressures. It may be that they never manage to focus their story sufficiently to be able to write with the clarity and brevity necessary. Or it may be that, in drafting the entry, there has been a realisation that the evidence of impact is not to hand.

Backfire Programme Reduces Youth Arson
Since 2004, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) has recorded a dramatic 166% increase in arson incidents, with youth arson a key contributor to the escalation. Realising it was facing a major problem, SYFR joined forces with innovative training provider, CragRats, to create the unique Backfire programme and reduce arson activity amongst young people.
SYFR is the emergency response service covering the Districts of Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley. SYFR has a commitment to establish community engagement as a primary focus. Part of its mission is to reduce arson, save lives, and prevent property damage within an environment of challenging government targets. Its corporate plan sets out a target of a 25% reduction in arson incidents by 2011.
