Celebrating success

The ‘best of the best’ honoured at National Training Awards.

Businesses that have made an outstanding contribution and commitment to training, learning and development in the workplace were honoured at a prestigious Awards ceremony on October 5th.

Four organisations were crowned the ‘best of the best’ at the National Training Awards 2011 Winners of the Year event at ExCeL London. Business leaders from all over the country gathered at the ceremony to see the following Winners of the Year presented with their awards after impressing the judges:

  • Magnox Limited -  Macro Employer of the Year
  • Tata Global Beverages -  Large Employer of the Year
  • Brother Industries UK Ltd - Medium Employer of the Year
  • Meningitis Trust - Small Employer of the Year
  • Robert Jackson – Linda Ammon Award

Dragon’s Den star Theo Paphitis presented the Awards at the ceremony and celebrity chef Brian Turner hosted a confectionery showcase featuring a ‘cook off’ between two former Team UK World Skills competitors.

Now in its 25th year National Training Awards celebrate and showcase Investors in People accredited employers that demonstrate organisational benefits gained by directly linking the training needs of their staff to the business needs of their organisation.

The four companies all won National Training Awards in their categories in their own regions and/or Nations. They then joined other winners from across England, Northern Ireland and Wales at the event in a bid for the ultimate accolade of Winner of the Year.

Winning an Award can directly impact on an organisation’s success. Forty percent of recent winners have seen bottom line benefits as a result of winning, with one in five stating that they had seen an increase in the number of contracts secured following their Award and one in three stating that their organisations had become more efficient.

The judging process of the National Training Awards, sponsored by City & Guilds and The Independent College Partnership, is rigorous and closely relates to Investors in People criteria with entries judged by individuals with considerable knowledge and experience in training and development.

All entrants initially go before a judging panel with winners from the region/Northern Ireland and Wales then going before the Winner of the Year panel where one National Training Award Winner of the Year is chosen in each category. The winning entries are deemed to be outstanding, exceptional and inspirational and through the impact of their training and development are considered to be truly exemplary.

John Hayes, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “I would like to congratulate all the winners in this year’s National Training Awards. It is a fantastic achievement and one they should rightly be proud of.

“It is more important than ever for organisations to follow the example of these companies and continue to invest in the development of their staff. We will only be able to achieve sustainable economic growth if we have people with the skills to meet the demands of today’s globalised economy.”
